Kertha Gosa
Kertha Gosa is a justice hall where it is the center where Balinese discuss and solve problems concerning security, prosperity, and justice of the Kingdom of Bali which is believed to be built around 1700 AD. This building is laid out with courtyard, gardens, pavilion and moats with beautiful architecture.

Pura Besakih
The most important and largest temple in Bali with an extensive of 23 separate but related temples located at 1000m up of Mount Agung. This temple complex is definitely a must see while in Bali, however tourists have had disappointing experience with the locals while here.

There are so many hidden "fees" you have to pay before entering the compound apart from the entrance fees of 7500 (adult) 6000(child). As for my personal experience, we are forced to buy a sarung even though we are appropriately dressed to enter the temple. Also you have to or at least pressured to donate to the temple administrators which I really feel awkward and a bit disgusted with this practice. Some of the tourist has also complaint that they have to pay "fees" for their camera. This place is a must visit but definitely not returning.

Gunung Agung
The highest mountain in Bali, Mount Agung with an imposing presence at East Bali and its peak covered by cloud and mist. For the adventurous ones, you can trek Mount Agung from Pura Besakih. You'll definitely hire a guide which the trekking package includes breakfast and other meals. Expect to pay 250k to 600k rp per person for the trekking adventure. Here are 2 of the recommended guide company.

  1. Gung Bawa Trekking - phone:0366-24379 email:gbtrekk@yahoo.com
  2. Ketut Uriada - phone: 081-23646426

Padang Bai [ Map ]
A small coastal fishing village, Padang Bai sits in a small bay with crystal clear blue waters. Travelers usually head to Padang Bai because of the port that have ferry services to Lombok and Nusa Penida. With funky and hip cafes sprouting out in Padang Bai, it is becoming a place where people chill in the slow paced village, soaking in their Bali holiday atmosphere.

Expect fishy smell around the main beach in the morning as fishermen come to land and flaunt their catches of the night. This is an interesting sight you city folks as you watch these fishermen organized their catches which is to be sold to markets and restaurants.

The main beach is usually full of fishing boats docking by the beach making it impractical to swim at the beach, however, there might be some spots that are not use for docking where you can swim.

Most of the accommodation here are homestays with only a few full-pledged hotels.
